Tragic Tax Irony
Ah...the tax cuts for the rich, and the child tax credits. Does anybody else think it is rather darkly ironic that the new Bush tax package is giving tax credits to parents for the children they have? These tax credits will, of course, have to be paid back by those same children, a decade or two or three hence. This is classic cross-generational income redistribution, something I thought the Republican party was supposed to be against. In right wing dogma, redistribution from wealthy to poor is indefensible. Redistribution from young to old is fantastic! Beyond fantastic, there really isn't any other path.
The current generation in charge of this country should be ashamed of themselves. We went from the Greatest Generation, defending this country against power evils in the world, evils that threatened to smash and take control of everything, to the Greediest Generation, the current holders of the keys, who steal and steal from their children until there is nothing left. And there will be nothing left. Our generation, and the generation of my children, will be Gray Generation, coated in nothing but swirling ash, a product of the path of destruction through the economy and through the environment, wrought by those who cared so little for their children and the future that they could not acknowledge even the smallest consequences of their actions.
